Who We Are

Nigel Integrity, operated by Avance Financial LLC, provides evidence-based integrity monitoring for remote assessments.

The Browser Extension

Monitored sessions run through the Nigel Integrity Chrome browser extension. The extension captures and relays assessment evidence only. It is active only during an assessment, does not control the student's computer, and collects nothing from the student's device outside the assessment context.

What We Collect During Monitored Sessions

• Video from the student's webcam (and 360-degree camera if configured)
• Screen capture: with the student's explicit consent, the extension records the screen or window the student chooses to share during the assessment. Screen recordings are used solely for assessment integrity review by authorized institutional staff, are encrypted, and are subject to the data retention policy below
• Microphone audio: audio may be captured during the assessment as part of the evidence stream. Audio is reviewed only by authorized human reviewers and is never used for voice analysis, behavioral scoring, or emotion detection
• Active tab information, including tab visibility and focus events, during the assessment
• AI-generated flags with timestamps and visual evidence
• Session metadata (start time, end time, assessment ID)

What We Never Collect or Analyze

• Keystroke patterns or typing behavior
• Facial expressions, emotions, or stress indicators
• Eye tracking or gaze direction
• Browser history or content of non-active tabs
• Audio for voice analysis, behavioral scoring, or emotion detection
• Any data from the student's device outside the assessment context

How We Use Data

• To provide real-time and post-session evidence for human review
• To generate AI-based flags for reviewer consideration. AI analysis is provided in part through Anthropic's Claude models acting as a sub-processor; institutional assessment recordings are never used to train AI models
• To support the appeals and adjudication process
• We never use assessment data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties

Sub-Processors

• Anthropic (Claude models): AI analysis used to generate flags for reviewer consideration
• Vercel (hosting and Vercel Blob storage): website hosting and storage of demo request submissions

Supporting FERPA Compliance

• Nigel Integrity operates under the FERPA school official exception
• The institution is the data controller
• We process student education records solely on behalf of and under the direction of the institution
• We do not disclose student information to third parties except as directed by the institution or required by law

Data Security

• All data encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256)
• Role-based access controls
• Regular security assessments

Data Retention

• Retention periods are configured by the institution
• Retention periods apply to all captured evidence, including webcam video, screen recordings, audio, and tab activity data
• Institutions may request deletion of all session data at any time
• Upon request, data is deleted within 30 days

Student Rights

• Students may withdraw consent at any time during an assessment. Withdrawing consent stops capture and ends the monitored session; the institution determines how the assessment is then handled
• Students may view any flags associated with their sessions
• Students may contest flags through the built-in appeals process
• Students may request information about data retention from their institution
• For questions about how your institution uses Nigel Integrity, contact your institution's testing or academic integrity office

Children's Privacy

• Some assessment participants may be under 18
• We collect only the minimum data necessary for integrity monitoring
• Parental or guardian consent is obtained through the institution's enrollment process

Changes to This Policy

• We will update this page when the policy changes
• Material changes will be communicated to institutional partners
