Consent as the exam condition
Students see exactly what an assessment requires before they begin and consent to monitoring as a condition of the exam. During the session, a live transparency beacon shows what is being captured at every moment.

Do students need to install special software?
No lockdown browser and no desktop client. Students use a lightweight Chrome extension and launch directly from your LMS. It works on Chromebooks, plays nicely with screen readers and other accessibility tools, and uninstalls cleanly.
How does it integrate with Canvas or Blackboard?
Nigel is an LTI tool. Your LMS admin adds it once, and faculty enable it per assessment like any other integration. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and D2L are all supported, and typical setup takes under an hour.
What happens when AI flags something?
The flag routes to a human reviewer with the visual evidence and timestamp attached. Nothing is auto-scored and no student is auto-accused. Reviewers dismiss, escalate, or document each flag, and every decision leaves an audit trail.
Is it FERPA compliant?
Nigel is designed to support your institution's FERPA compliance. We operate under the FERPA school official exception, meaning we act on your institution's behalf, use student data only for the integrity service you contracted, and never sell or repurpose it.
What is consent-gated focus mode?
For assessments that require it, the student chooses to silence notifications and stay in the exam tab for the duration. The student self-restricts; the platform never locks the browser or takes over the machine. A student can step out at any time, and the consequence is an amber flag for human review, not a blocked or terminated exam.
